Square Enix looking to revive True Crime: Hong Kong

During an investor call earlier this year, Activision revealed their plans to kill off the Guitar Hero franchise, among other things. One of those “other things” was True Crime: Hong Kong , developer United Front Games’ attempt to resurrect the franchise.

Hope seemed lost once Activision shared the grim news, but it looks like Square Enix is looking to pick up where Activision left off. According to a report by Gamasutra , Square Enix picked up the rights to True Crime: Hong Kong .

They didn’t pick up the rights to the actual brand, however, so unless they’re able to do so in the near future, True Crime: Hong Kong will be released under a new name.

“When we first saw and got our hands on the game we fell in love with it,” said Square Enix London Studios general manager Lee Singleton. When we met the team at United Front Games it was a done deal in our eyes – we instantly recognised the huge potential in the game and the team.”

Square Enix hasn’t said when we can expect True Crime: Hong Kong (or whatever they end up calling it) will be released, but at least we know it’s still in the works.
