A Michigan resident is trying to raise some badly needed cash so he can undergo an operation to remove a growth from his scrotum that weighs nearly 100 pounds.

Dan Maurer, 39, who is from Battle Creek, suffers from an extremely rare condition called scrotal lymphedema, which causes the scrotum to become unusually large.

Maurer first knew something was wrong when he was in his 20’s and he noticed that his scrotum kept getting bigger. When he went to seek medical attention for the issue, doctors simply told him that he needed to lose weight.

He took their advice, as he told reporters : “So, I was doing two miles a day in the pool, so I lost 50lbs like that,” but despite his weight loss, which was successful, his scrotum just kept growing.

Apart from the fact that the condition has badly affected Maurer’s marriage over the past 20 years, including the fact he hasn’t been able to have sex with his wife in over seven years, she has stood by him every step of the way.

Maurer’s mother, Connie Maurer, told Fox Detroit : “The bigger it gets it seems to me like the faster it grows. When he stands it almost hangs to his ankles.”

After a while Maurer fell sick and was hospitalized with what turned out to be a broken cyst inside his scrotum.

Soon after he came out of hospital, Maurer came across the TLC reality show, The Man with The 132 Pound Scrotum about the life of Wesley Warren Jr.who also has the same problem.

He then knew what he had and was able to tell his doctors about it. Having found a doctor who specializes in urology, Maurer is hoping to have an operation to remove the 100-pound growth, but the procedure is not covered by his insurance.

As a result, Maurer has launched a personal campaign on the website GoFundMe.com t o raise a much needed $20,000 to pay for the surgery. As of this morning, he had raised just over $2,230.
