A significant amount of pomp and ceremony is still being carried out by the British Royal Family after the Trooping the Color parade over the weekend. As the Order of Garter unfolded Monday on the grounds of Windsor Castle, Kate Middleton and Prince William couldn’t help showing the world how they feel about each. Wearing a full-length blue velvet robe and hat with plumes, the Duke of Cambridge looked over to his wife as he passed her in the parade. The Duchess, standing next to Sophie, the Countess of Essex, can be seen smiling broadly to her husband as he steals a glance at her. Prince Charles walked in the Order next to William.
Kate is known for recycling her designer outfits and she did that on Monday wearing a sky blue dress coat by Christopher Kane. Her hat is by Lock & Co. Middleton wore the piece at Buckingham Palace in 2012 during a function celebrating the London Olympics.
Others in the Order of the Garter included Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward.
Camilla Parker-Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall, was noticeably absent. Daily Mail reports that Prince Charles’ wife was unable to appear at the event because she has sinusitis.
The Order of the Garter is a centuries-old tradition in England dating back to 1348 in which honored recipients are awarded by the sovereignty for outstanding public service and achievement, Daily Mail explains. Those chosen have “held public office, contributed to national life or served the sovereign personally.”
Seven thousand people were invited to attend the Order of Garter ceremony Monday, according to the report.
EOnline reports that Kate Middleton and Prince William are leaving Prince George at home during Monday’s events. The 11-month-old prince was seen Sunday at a polo match at Cirencester Park in Gloucestershire. William and his brother, Prince Harry, were playing polo on opposing teams. All eyes were on Will and Kate’s son as the little boy attempted running off from mom a time or two! Now that George is walking, he’s at that stage in which he keeps everyone on their toes.
