A Palisades Park resident who crashed his Lamborghini near the George Washington Bridge on Monday has been located and charged.
Deankarte E. Ditchfield-Agboh, 33, has now been issued summonses for abandoning his Lamborghini after the crash, and fleeing the scene of a crash.
The suspect was interviewed by Port Authority police and will be going to Fort Lee Municipal Court on August 6 for a hearing.
Since finding the rare car burned out at around 2 am near the Bridge Plaza North on the Turnpike westbound, authorities have been seeking the owner as they couldn’t believe anyone would abandon such an expensive vehicle.
An eyewitness to the Lamborghini crash, Todd Greene, an Elkton, Maryland truck driver, said he was on the upper tier of the bridge when he saw the supercar with its roof down speeding past him to the right side.
Greene told reporters, “By the time I got to the other side, I was running over car parts in the roadway and I saw the wreck,” he said. Greene added, “It was a pretty nice car. It looked like a new one.”
Port Authority Police spokesman Joe Pentangelo said to reporters on Tuesday that the sports car was a 2008 dark gray Murcielago, a model built between 2001 and 2010.
That car is listed at more than $330,000 when new and auto-pricing sites estimate that a used convertible like this would fetch around $200,000.
According to Pentangelo, the burned out Lamborghini was released back to Ditchfield-Agboh on Tuesday but was not immediately visible at the family home or at the business.
It remains to be seen what circumstances led to the Lamborghini crash, and authorities are carrying out a full investigation. At this time, it is not thought that the driver of the car was drunk or under the influence of drugs.
