The search for Brogan Dulle has ended in tragedy. Authorities confirmed a body, matching Dulle’s description, was found inside a vacant building. Although the circumstances of his death are still unclear, authorities do not suspect foul play.
In the early hours of Sunday, May 18, the 21-year-old University of Cincinnati student left his apartment to search for his cell phone. When Dulle failed to return, his friends and family became concerned. A missing persons report was filed on Monday morning.
In the course of investigation, authorities interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance video. Although he voluntarily left his apartment, it appeared that the student planned to return.
When Dulle left his apartment, his keys and wallet were still inside. In the surveillance video he can be seen walking along McMillan Street, as though he were searching for his cell phone.
Although investigators believed he will still in the area, Dulle apparently vanished without a trace. Volunteers from the college and the community joined investigators in their search. However, there were few clues as to why the student disappeared, or where he had gone.
As reported by WLWT News , Dulle’s parents said “their family is very close” and they had no reason to believe the young man was troubled .
Eight days after he vanished, the search for Brogan Dulle came to a tragic end. Authorities announced that a body, matching the missing student’s description, was found inside a partially vacant building.
Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell said the body was found hanging inside an empty room, which was under reconstruction. Although it is unclear why, authorities believe Dulle committed suicide.
Chief Blackwell said he is “98 percent” certain the body belongs to Brogan Dulle. However, dental records will be used to confirm his identity.
A spokesperson for Dulle’s family provided a statement about the tragedy:
“Brogan’s family is heartbroken by the loss of their beloved son and brother… The family is overwhelmingly grateful for the love, prayers, support and time given by the Cincinnati community.”
As the building was just feet away from Dulle’s apartment, it is unclear why the search lasted more than a week. County Coroner Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco confirmed the building’s exterior was searched extensively. However, investigators did not enter the building.
As reported by Wave 3 News , authorities later confirmed that the student’s body was discovered by the landlord, who was inspecting the inside of the building. Although the search for Brogan Dulle has ended in tragedy, his family is thankful for the outpouring of support from the entire community .
