Over the last few years Marilyn Monroe’s image has increasingly grown more popular. Her legend has been featured on a television show, a film, and now singer Pharrell Williams has decided to make her name the title of one of his new songs.

The hit maker performed the song “Marilyn Monroe” on Jimmy Kimmel Live for an encore performance after his show on Wednesday. Wearing a yellow “Girls!” sweater and a stylish black hat, the hit maker decided to perform a set including, “Get Lucky” “Marilyn Monroe” and “Hunter” with the help of some of his dancers, who call themselves the Baes.

The singer-writer-producer has been getting around lately. Aside from his stellar night at the Grammys, Pharrell has been on talk shows like The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Oprah’s Next Chapter to promote his new album G I R L and his breakout year.

Williams is on the cover of W magazine this month as he posed for a series of artistic images. The singer opened up about what started it all — the hat.

“It’s a strange thing about the hat. I bought it five or six years ago. I went into the store World’s End in London with my friend Ronnie Newhouse to buy a pair of boots for my wife.”

Williams continued to explain the history behind the hat :

“While we were there, Ronnie [a creative director who understands the power and history of fashion like few others] told me that the hat was designed by Vivienne Westwood and was championed by her then husband, Malcolm McLaren, who managed the Sex Pistols. I bought two hats that day, and I wore one in a TV interview soon after. No one said anything about the hat. They didn’t notice.”

While on Oprah’s Next Chapter Pharrell Williams grew serious as he explained what his newfound fame means to him as an artist. After Oprah played a fan video made to his infectious tune “Happy” Williams became emotional.

“Why am I crying on Oprah? It’s overwhelming, because it’s like I love what I do, and I just appreciate the fact that people have believed in me for so long that I could make it to this point to feel that.”

Small cameos in the video are made by Kelly Osbourne and model Charlotte Grey. See if you can spot either of them in the new video.
