It’s a fact of life – everything changes when you have kids. Everything. Things can be chaotic and crazy and overwhelming. It’s easy to lose sight of what really matters. Moms’ Night Out is a new comedy coming to theaters, appropriately enough, on Mother’s Day Weekend. And it is a must-see!
Every once in a while, a movie comes along that is so much more than just entertainment. Moms’ Night Out is that movie. There are scenes that every mom who has ever raised a child will easily identify with, but since it’s somebody else and not you, it’s a lot easier to see the humor in the insanity. There are also gentle reminders of just how incredibly important and valuable the job of being “mom” is, something that all moms need to hear just a little more often.
All Allyson and her friends wanted was just a night out, just one, away from the kids, just a few short hours with no one crawling on them or breaking something or under their feet – not too much to ask, right? The dads can watch the kids – that’s not too much to ask, right? Right. Mama wants high heels and a nice dinner with girlfriends. The thoughts – emergency room, tattoo parlor, motorcycle gang, and high speed car chase – were the furthest thing from anybody’s mind!
Just as parenthood is often uncharted territory, so was the making of this film. Directors Jon and Andrew Erwin and Producer Kevin Downes included and consulted their wives in the process. Each of them has small children, and their wives can each relate directly to the script, because it is where they are at in this stage of life. The directors and producers see Moms’ Night Out not only as an encouragement to moms everywhere, but also as a gift to their wives and the mothers of their children, Mandii and Beth Erwin and Catherine Downes.
The Erwin Brothers, directors of October Baby , have once again knocked it out of the ballpark with this hilariously inspirational, heart-warming family film. It’s both a comedy and a love story.
Sarah Drew, of Grey’s Anatomy , stars as Allyson, and Sean Astin , of Lord of the Rings and Rudy fame, plays her husband. Patricia Heaton, from Everybody Loves Raymond , and Trace Atkins also star in Moms’ Night Out.
So make plans now to get some girlfriends together for a moms night out for dinner and a movie. Take your own mom. Or Dad, take the mother of your children out to see Moms’ Night Out.
