Fox30 reported on Wednesday that a Jacksonville Woman shot her pregnant friend in the stomach following an argument they had on Facebook the previous night.
Video footage caught by Christopher Cash, an eyewitness on the scene at the time of the shooting, shows the victim slumped in a chair being comforted by a neighbor as a police officer arrested the suspect.
“They were arguing out front, something about Facebook. I walked out and just heard a pop,” said Cash. The suspect’s mother, Lillian Jordan, said that her daughter, Virginia Wyche Jordan, must have been pushed to her limit: “Someone came here and she got mad. She’s gonna do something,” she said to reporters.
Police also confirmed that the fight between the women had begun on Facebook the night before. Police told reporters that the suspect came to the woman’s home to talk to her and then things escalated.
The suspect’s mother spoke about how hard it was for her to deal with what her daughter had done, especially as the victim’s unborn baby was lost as a result of the shooting: “It’s hard to cope with this. I was raised in a religious family,” she said .
The suspect’s mother said she was totally confused about what had happened:
“My son called me and I was very disturbed about this because this is not the way I was raised, and they (were) not raised like this. Somebody had to provoke my child… to do what she (did). I don’t know if she was trying to defend herself, or if they (were) trying to jump on my child, I can’t say.”
Homicide Sgt. Michael Paul said: “I know the victim was definitely shot in the abdomen. That’s the one gun shot that I know of.”
Wyche, who was booked into jail immediately following her arrest, has been charged with murder.
