Peaches Geldof was found dead Monday at age 25, a sudden ending to the short and often tragic life of the daughter of Bob Geldof.
Peaches was found dead in a residence in Kent, England, after police had been called to check the welfare of a woman there. Though a drug overdose is suspected, police have classified the death only as “unexpected and sudden,” the BBC News reported.
Geldof had a blooming career in media, serving as a reporter for ITV’s show OMG! and serving as a contributor to the Telegraph and Guardian newspapers for the last 10 years.
The sudden death brought an end to a troubled life. Peaches Geldof had struggled with addiction , and her mother Paula Yates died of a drug overdose in 2000.
Peaches said it took her years to cope with her mother’s passing.
“I remember the day my mother died, and it’s still hard to talk about it. I just blocked it out. I went to school the next day because my father’s mentality was ‘keep calm and carry on,’” she said.
“So we all went to school and tried to act as if nothing had happened. But it had happened. I didn’t grieve. I didn’t cry at her funeral. I couldn’t express anything because I was just numb to it all. I didn’t start grieving for my mother properly until I was maybe 16.”
Peaches Geldof’s death was made even more tragic by the fact that she left behind two young children.
Though she loved being a mother, in an interview shortly before her death Peaches admitted that it could be quite trying at times. In April, Peaches told Mother and Baby magazine that she would “cry with exhaustion” at her children and sometimes struggled with the pressures of being a parent.
Peaches said she often leaned on her husband Tom Cohen’s mother, Sue, the grandmother of her children.
Peaches said: “If I didn’t have Sue to help me out, it might have been too much. There’s been times I’ve cried with exhaustion, when they’re both screaming, and I’ve just had to sit down, breathe and be like, ‘this is hard’. You have no time for yourself, even on the toilet – you have a baby sitting on your lap while you are having a poo, eating a sandwich at the same time.
“That’s what being a mum is. It’s not easy. It can be stressful, but it is the most rewarding thing you can do.”
Officials have still not given an official cause of death for Peaches Geldof.
