Donald Trump is a real estate mogul and reality television star, and he could soon add NFL owner to that resume.
The billionaire said he has been in touch with a group trying to purchase the team, which will be up for sale after the death of its only owner, Ralph Wilson.
Trump admitted that the possibility of owning the Buffalo Bills interested him.
“People have actually talked to me about the Bills,” Trump told WBEN radio in Buffalo. “I mean, the group of people called me — would I be interested in investing, and I’ll take a look at it. I mean, I look at a lot of things. I’ll take a look at it.”
Though the news that Donald Trump is interested in buying the team could worry some Buffalo Bills fans, Trump reassured them that he is not interested in moving the team out of Western New York.
“I know so many people in Buffalo, and they have asked me about looking at that and I certainly would look at it, but I would… if it were me, I’d keep the team in Buffalo,” he said. “I think it’s something that is really vital to the area…. It would be catastrophic, in my opinion, if Buffalo lost the Buffalo Bills.”
It is possible that Trump has been in contact with Jim Kelly, the team’s Hall of Fame quarterback who for years has talked about putting together a group of investors to buy the team and keep it in Buffalo. Trump is even helping Kelly while he’s in New York City being treated for a recurrence of jaw cancer.
“He called me, and actually his family is staying at one of my apartments in New York as he’s going through a very rough time,” Trump said. “He’s a great guy, and he sounded actually really good two days ago. He called me from the hospital.”
Some have said Donald Trump expressing interest in buying the Buffalo Bills could just be a ploy for attention , just like his abandoned bid for a presidential run in 2012.
