The Royal Dutch Mint has found an entirely new way to use QR Codes, the mint has added the technology to the countries silver 5 EUR coin and a gold 10 EUR coin.

The technology was implemented to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Royal Dutch Mint. The front of the Dutch coin looks like a standard offering while the back features the QR code which when scanned leads users to the Royal Dutch Mint’s website.

The move comes after the mint promised a big “surprise” when the new currency was distributed. It’s believed that the website may offer prizes to certain visitors who scan the QR codes although they have not officially announced what their “surprise” will actually entail.

What do you think of this particular QR code use?
