Ted Nugent, the controversial rocker and Second Amendment advocate, has apologized for referring to President Obama as a “subhuman mongrel” in a prior interview .

As if there is no other news in the world, ratings-challenged CNN has been running with the Nugent story seemingly 24-7.

Ted Nugent has been campaigning for Greg Abbott, the Texas attorney general and GOP front-runner for governor who will likely be opposed by media favorite Wendy Davis , a state senator. The Davis campaign has been blasting Abbott for his Nugent connection. Many prominent Republicans have denounced Nugent’s offensive and disrespectful comments, including US Sen. Rand Paul who specifically called upon Nugent to apologize for his derogatory description of the president. “Abbott, who is running for the GOP nomination for governor, had invited Nugent because of his strong support of gun rights. Nugent suggested regret that his incendiary language has been tied to Republican politicians like Abbott and Perry and Sen. Ted Cruz, who sought to disassociate himself from the remarks but dodged when asked whether he would campaign with Nugent in the future.”

On the Ben Ferguson radio show today, Nugent issued what could be deemed a qualified apology:

“Yes, I would [apologize]. I did cross the line. I do apologize, not necessarily to the president, but on behalf of much better men than myself, like the best governor in America Gov. Rick Perry, the best attorney general in America —just think if America had an attorney general as great as Greg Abbott like we do here in Texas. So on behalf of those professional politicians and those who put their heart and soul in representing we the people so accurately like the gentlemen I just mentioned…

Continued Nugent: “I apologize for using the street fighter terminology of ‘subhuman mongrel’ instead of just using more understandable language, such as ‘violator of his oath to the Constitution’, the liar that he is — the president lied when he said we could keep our doctors… the Department of Justice called the Allah Akbar terrorism at Fort Hood workplace violence — those are the real offensive occurrences in America. So, yes Ben, I apologize for using the term ‘subhuman mongrel’ and I will try to elevate my vernacular to the level of those great men that I’m learning from in the world of politics.”

In a statement, Greg Abbott said that “This is not the kind of language I would use or endorse in any way. It’s time to move beyond this, and I will continue to focus on the issues that matter to Texans.”

Do you think Ted Nugent’s apology for calling the president a subhuman mongrel is sufficient to settle the political uproar?
