T.J. Oshie is a sudden star, and now his pregnant girlfriend Lauren Cosgrove is finding herself in the spotlight as well.
Oshie was the hero for Team USA on Saturday, scoring the game-winning shootout goal in the 3-2 victory. Because of the Olympic rules, after the first three rounds of the shootout coaches can pick any player they please, so American coach Dan Blysma picked Oshie — again and again and again.
As America rushed to learn about the St. Louis Blues forward, they also found plenty of information about T.J. Oshie’s girlfriend. Pictures of Lauren Cosgrove were splashed across a number of sports blogs, and the search term “T.J. Oshie girlfriend” even shot to the top of Google searches for the day.
It’s not unusual that the girlfriend or wife of an athlete shoots to fame suddenly. During a Dallas Cowboys game earlier this year, cameras turned often to Tony Romo’s wife , Candace Crawford. Though the Cowboys lost the game to the Denver Broncos — in dramatic fashion — Crawford ended up being one of the biggest stories, and herself became a popular internet search trend.
Katherine Webb also had a rise similar to T.J. Oshie’s girlfriend. The beau of Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron, Webb shot to national fame after she was spotted by cameras during the BCS Title game in 2013.
T.J. Oshie’s girlfriend wasn’t actually in the stands to see Team USA defeat Russia, but she has a good reason. Lauren Cosgrove is pregnant and expecting the couple’s first child in April. But that didn’t stop her from sharing her thoughts on Twitter.
