When Selena Gomez was told her new video would feature pink horses, the tween queen believed the color would be superimposed onto regular horses in post-production.
However, the video for “Love You Like a Love Song” has sparked a bit of controversy about animal treatment when it was discovered actual, pink-painted horses would be used for the video’s scenes. Singer and animal rights proponent Pink complained about the shoot on her Twitter account:
“If there are any animal activists around Malibu at Leo Cabrillo State Beach, there are horses being painted for a stupid music video. Shame,” she said via her Twitter account last month.
An unnamed source confirms Gomez was unaware the horses would be subjected to body painting:
“When Selena was presented the idea for the video, no one informed her the horses would be painted and she had assumed they would be colored in post-production [via special effects],” an insider told E! Online. “When she showed up to the set she was very surprised to see them painted.”
Although the animals were airbrushed with a “non-toxic, vegetable-based powder paint,” the footage was scrapped from the video after the furor erupted.
