As expected Lorde, the 17-year-old singer from New Zealand was the golden new winner of the ceremony. Just like a once 18-year-old Alicia Keys picked up multiple awards with her debut album, Lorde earned two awards for her single “Royals”. Lorde, whose real name is Ella, was shocked with her wins for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. Both wins left the awkward singer speechless, but extremely humbled as she went up to accept both of her Grammy awards.
Early on in the night Lorde took to the stage to perform her hit single “Royals”. The performance was mostly stripped down. Instead of leaning on sex appeal, the 17-year-old proved that she’s marching to the beat of a different drum with her high-waisted dress pants and a sleeveless white blouse. Although Lorde seemed to own the night for the female musicians, not everyone was in love with her performance. While Beyonce had more risqué moves, Lorde decided to debut shaky and jerky movements for her first performance at the Grammys.

It doesn’t seem like the singer plays into her critics. Even before she arrived at the Grammys, Lorde proved that she had the best outlook. Of possibly not taking home awards on Grammy night, the down to earth singer said:
“To be honest I’m not gonna be too stressed if I don’t come home with anything. It would be super awesome to win a Grammy, I mean it would probably be the craziest thing that will ever happen to me if it happens, but it definitely won’t cheapen or make less anything I’ve achieved.”
In total Lorde was nominated for four Grammys for her debut “Royals”. As for her summer single, Lorde’s song peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard charts and has spent twenty nine weeks on the charts.
