Oklahoma State’s golf team is hoping to win its 11th national title, but the team is under pressure, with their last title win in 2006.
OSU will host the tournament on its home turf, Karsten Creek, for the first time since 2003. NewsOK.com spoke to sophomore team player Sean Einhaus about the effects of the pressure on team morale and the university’s commitment to the sport:
“Yes, we have pressure,” Einhaus said. “But that’s why we play. We want to feel under the gun and perform under that pressure.”
These Cowboys came to Stillwater to feel that pressure. Fewer sports are more genteel than college golf. But the internal competitive drive is fierce.
The Cowboys feel it every time they cruise down South Memorial Drive to the Karsten clubhouse and see the financial commitment their university has made to golf. Feel it every time they walk past the portraits of OSU greats in the clubhouse. Feel it whenever their athletic director comes around.
