While former NFL quarterback Brett Favre may not be making a return to football fans’ living rooms on Sunday any time soon (or ever), it seems Favre still cannot stay away from the game he loves. These days, however, Brett Favre is leading his team to championship games on the sidelines with a clipboard in his hands.
This Friday, Brett Favre takes to the football field as the second-year offensive coordinator for Oak Grove High School, with his Warriors facing off against the Tupelo High School Golden Wave in Jackson for Mississippi high school football glory.
“Who knows if I’ll do it next year,” said Favre, via the Associated Press .
“I really don’t know. It’s been a lot of fun. I enjoy it. It’s easy and it’s not too time-consuming.”
Just what the football world needs, more indecision on whether or not Brett Favre will be back for another year.
Favre, a three-time MVP in the National Football League and veteran of two Super Bowls, lives in Hattiesburg, Miss. where Oak Grove is located. Brett Favre had used the facilities at Oak Grove for years to keep in shape during the NFL off season, TIME reports. As a result, Favre has known and been friends with the Warriors’ head coach, Nevil Barr, for nearly a decade. And who wouldn’t want to have Brett Favre involved with his football team?
“I just like the way he is around the kids,” Barr said. “He’s got so much enthusiasm and the players feed off that.”
In all the excitement, Favre has become a fixture in the program, but the Mississippi native and Southern Miss special education alum is all about the team.
“As strange as this may sound, he’s just become one of the coaches,” Oak Grove quarterback Kirk McCarty said. “He doesn’t want special treatment and he doesn’t get any. He’s held to the same standard as everyone else.”
Brett Favre has repeatedly said he will not return to playing football, in light of all the quarterback injuries this season, but it seems he has found a place for football in his life nonetheless.
