Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow recently clarified that the upcoming film is not a reboot of the original 1993 film Jurassic Park .
“Reboot is a strong word,” Trevorrow wrote on Twitter . “This is a new sci-fi terror adventure set 22 years after the horrific events of Jurassic Park.”
In May, Trevorrow tweeted a picture of a landscape with the caption “Nublar.” The first film was set in Isla Nublar, a “remote island about 120 miles off the west coast of Costa Rica.” The second and third films were set in Isla Sorna, also known as Site B, which is 87 miles away from Isla Nublar.
That same month, Universal announced that Jurassic World had been pushed back from its original June 13, 2014 release date to give “the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal’s beloved franchise.” The film is now scheduled for June 12, 2015.
There have been two sequels to Jurassic Park : 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park , and 2001’s Jurassic Park III . The first two films were directed by Steven Spielberg, with Joe Johnston stepping in for the third installment. With the exception of Sam Neil and Laura Dern, who reprised their roles as Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Degler, none of the characters from the first film returned for Jurassic Park III .
Bryce Dallas Howard, Nick Robinson , and Ty Simpkins have been confirmed for Jurassic World . Men in Black 3 star Josh Brolin has been rumored for a lead role in the film, but his involvement has yet to be confirmed.
Colin Trevorrow acknowledged that he is facing a challenge to live up to Jurassic Park .
“We are very aware of how much a certain generation especially cares about this movie and we talk about it all the time in conversations,” he said. “It’s not about us, it’s not about our careers, it’s – how do we make something that can stand [against the first ‘Jurassic Park’]?”
So far, no plot details have been released for Jurassic World .
