In a fatal Amish buggy accident in Pennsylvania, a mother and her 11-year-old daughter were killed when a tractor truck collided with them.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Saturday on Pulaski Mercer Road, Pa. when the tractor, driven by Matthew Coulter from Pulaski, hit the back of the buggy.
The Amish buggy was being driven by William Byler, the father and husband of the deceased. Mary Byler and her daughter were pronounced dead at the scene, while William Byler, was said to be in a critical condition.
The Lawrence County emergency dispatch said that they were called and notified of the accident, which was around 60 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. The injured man was airlifted to the St. Elizabeth Health Center in Ohio.
The Pennsylvania State Police said they were investigating what might have caused the tragic Amish buggy accident. Obviously the incident has already raised some questions about the relative safety of horse drawn carts being used on public roads.
After all, in this modern day and age, something from which the Amish people separate themselves, much faster modes of transport than horses and carts are used by most other people..
