Police officer Pat Rogers, who appeared on Boston’s Finest , has died after an alleged suicide.

Rogers, an eight-year veteran of the Boston Police Department, was featured in several episodes of the first season of the TNT series, which is produced by Donnie Wahlberg . He was also scheduled to appear in the upcoming second season.

The Dorchester native apparently took his own life Tuesday, just hours before the network had scheduled a screening of the season two premiere. Outgoing Boston Mayor Thomas Menino was expected to attend the event, which was canceled after producers learned of Rogers’ death. The cause of death has not been officially confirmed.

“I am so deeply saddened tonight,” Wahlberg wrote on Twitter Tuesday. “My thoughts and prayers go out to a fallen brother of The Boston Police Dept.” He apologized for his lack of tweets the next day and said that he was “working very hard, with a very heavy heart.” Thursday, he thanked fans for their love and support, saying, “The families & the BPD need it most. Prayers for them, and for a fallen brother.”

TNT said in a statement, “We stand with the men and women of the Boston Police Department and send heartfelt condolences to family, friends and fellow officers.”

The Boston Police Department also issued a statement following Pat Rogers’ death:

“The Boston PD is investigating the unfortunate death of a member of the department. At this time, the circumstances are under investigation, and the department asks that the media respect the privacy of the family at this time.”

According to Pat Rogers’ bio on the Boston’s Finest website, he was assigned to district E-18, which covers the neighborhood of Hyde Park. Rogers’ bio also says that he was inspired to join the force by his uncle, who was also a Boston police officer.

Season two of Boston’s Finest is scheduled to premiere Tuesday, November 26.

We here at The Inquisitr extend our condolences to Pat Rogers’ friends and family, the cast and crew of Boston’s Finest , and the Boston Police Department.
