Before Matthew McConaughey’s performance in Dallas Buyers Club garnered him some serious Oscar attention, the southern charmer was known for two things; his leading romantic comedies, and for getting arrested while playing the congas. Some of you may be thrilled to hear that even though McConaughey has upped his game in the industry, he still plays the congas naked.
During his GQ Man of the Year issue, the honoree opened up about the fact that he still does get down with music, and is naked while doing so. However one thing has changed from his 1999 arrest – he’s smarter about it.
So what does Mathew McConaughey do differently while he plays the bongos naked? McConaughey told GQ : “Of course I still play the congas naked. I just close the windows.”
The first time around, Matthew was caught playing the congas in October of 1999, and was later arrested. During his playing at his residential home in Austin, Texas, a neighbor had complained about the racket. When authorities got to the scene, they found the Dazed & Confused actor dancing around nude while playing the congas. What they also found was that McConaughey, not surprisingly, had some marijuana in his possession. At the time of his arrested, he was charged with possession of marijuana.
In the end, McConaughey’s charges were dropped, and he wound up paying a $50 fine for the noise ordinance. Since then, it’s been one of his defining moments in his public image.
Now fourteen years later, Matthew McConaughey gets why the public had such a surfer dude perception about him. “Now I get it. Outdoors, shirtless on the beach, does a lot of rom-coms, girlfriend loves him, good-looking. It’s like he rolls out of bed and shows up and makes it look easy.”
Lucky for Matthew he has a sure winner on his hands this year.
