Are you ready to get biblical? That’s the question that’s coming out today with the release of Darren Aronofsky’s trailer for Noah . The biblical story, which stars Russell Crowe as Noah, tells the tale of Noah as he suffers apocalyptic visions, and the lengths he’s ready to go to protect his family from the giant flood.
The epic tale of Darren Aronofsky’s biblical film Noah may be more complex than the actual story of the film itself. A few weeks ago, it was reported that Paramount was not happy with Noah after the production wrapped in the first week of November.
For Aronofsky, the telling of Noah is a large undertaking. The director, who has helmed widely received films like Requiem for a Dream , Black Swan , and The Wrestler, has always had control over his micro-budget films. Noah is an entirely different beast for Aronofsky, and it reportedly showed when Paramount decided to test screen it for audiences. Since the film’s reception was negative, it put some pressure on Darren Aronofsky to re-edit the film, but according to reports, Aronofsky wasn’t having it.
Allegedly, a rep close to the project said of the Paramount dispute :
“Darren is not made for studio films. He’s very dismissive. He doesn’t care about [Paramount’s] opinion.”
A few weeks later and we have the trailer for Noah , and it looks to be insanely epic, complete with a vision from God, storming of the ark, and yes, the animals are all there too.
Of his film, Noah director Darren Aronofsky said to Indiewire :
“In the Bible the story is only a couple of pages, and the perception we have of it in the West is more as a children’s toy — an old man with a long beard and animals two by two on the boat. And there’s so much more to the story than that…there’s a lot of clues there about what the story means. So it was about trying to create a world where the story of Noah could be truthful and could take place, and make it something that could connect to a modern audience.”
The great flood hits theaters on March 28, 2014.
