2009 NFL Draft two years out: New York Giants

The more and more removed from 2009 we get the more and more I get down on the 2009 New York Giants draft class. Sure they landed one starter, but they cut two players during the 2009 pre season, and since then this draft has done little to improve on itself. One starter and what looks to be a bunch of wash outs simply is not good enough.

Here is a quick look at the 2009 Giants draft class:

•Round One (29)- Hakeem Nicks WR •Round Two (45)- Clint Sintim LB •Round Two (60)- William Beatty OT •Round Three (85)- Ramses Barden WR •Round Three (100)- Travis Beckum TE •Round Four (129)- Andre Brown RB •Round Five (151)- Rhett Bomar QB •Round Six (200)- DeAndre Wright WR •Round Seven (238)- Stoney Woodson DB

Sure Hakeem Nicks had over 1,000 receiving yards in 2010 and is now a key piece of the Giants offensive attack, but there are a lot of misses in this draft that we cannot overlook. Clint Sintim is a below average backup LB, William Beatty started four games in his rookie year, but has fallen off the Giants depth chart. Ramses Barden has done nothing, Travis Beckum has played in a lot of games but contributed little. Andre Brown is a Washington Redskin, Rhett Bomar is a Minnesota Viking and the last two picks were cut in the 2009 pre season.

Good NFL teams cannot afford to waste that many draft picks. The Giants picked 29th in the first round two years ago and will pick 19th in the first round in 2011. That hardly suggests a team headed in the right direction and bad draft classes are at least part of the reason why.
