Dexter is heading to Netflix.
Netflix reached a deal with CBS Corp. today to stream all eight seasons of the hit Showtime show.
According to Business Week, the first four season of Dexter will be available for streaming on Netflix starting on Halloween. The final four seasons will be available on Netflix starting January 1.
A Netflix rep told Variety : “We are able to start streaming the first four as early as Halloween so we are. We didn’t want to wait until Jan. 1 to put all eight out at the same time.”
The Verge notes that this isn’t the first time that Netflix has offered Dexter to its subscribers. The show was available until 2011 when CBS and Netflix renegotiated their contract. The two companies have now reached a new agreement that will put Dexter back on the streaming service.
Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, said in a statement: “We’re thrilled to have Dexter , one of Showtime’s highest-rated shows on Netflix, and so quickly after it completed its record-breaking run… This is one of the great serialized dramas of the past decade and we know our members will enjoy discovering or reliving the twisted world of Dexter Morgan anywhere and anytime they want.”
Scott Koondel, chief corporate content licensing officer for CBS, said that he was happy to see Dexter on Netflix because it meant that the show would find a wider audience.
Koondel said: “(This deal) further demonstrates the value of this content in the marketplace while expanding the show’s passionate fan base to a whole new online audience.”
