Did Jon Lester cheat during the first game of the World Series? Several fans took to Twitter last night after they spotted a mysterious green spot on Lester’s glove.
Internet conspiracy theorists said that the green smudge was Vaseline and that Lester was using it to grease the ball. In addition to the photos, a Vine video captured Lester seemingly rubbing the green spot before grabbing the baseball.
Cardinals minor league player Tyler Melling wrote on Twitter: “Jon Lester using a little Vaseline inside the glove tonight?”
The MLB heard the complaints but said that there was no evidence that Jon Lester cheated. The league said in a statement that there were no complaints during the game last night and that none of the umpires suspected Lester of cheating.
The MLB said : “We cannot draw any conclusions from this video… There were no complaints from the Cardinals, and the umpires never detected anything indicating a foreign substance throughout the game.”
The Huffington Post notes that Lester pitched 7.2 scoreless innings last night and struck out 8 batters. But did he get a little help from a little green substance? Let’s go to the video.
