Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather will only serve a one game suspension for his illegal hits in Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.

Last week, the NFL’s front office handed down a two-game suspension which Meriweather appealed. He spoke about his illegal hits with hearing officer Ted Cottrell.

Meriweather will now miss Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.

During the Redskins’ 45-41 win over the Chicago Bears, Brandon Meriweather was flagged twice for personal fouls. He was called for a helmet-to-helmet hit on receiver Alshon Jeffery and then he smashed into Brandon Marshall in the fourth quarter during a dropped end zone pass.

Meriweather has a history of playing dirty. In a week two loss to the Green Bay Packers, he was fined $42,000 for two illegal hits. In 2010, he was fined $50,000 against New England. Last year, Meriweather racked up $45,000 in fines, once again while playing the Chicago Bears.

Bennett after the game didn’t have the most kind words to speak about Meriweather. During his chat with WSCR-670 in Chicago on Monday he said, “I still want to punch him in the face.”

“I don’t know [Bennett] personally, but he had a chance to say whatever he wanted to during the game, after the game — and the kid didn’t open his mouth. No respect for a guy who wants to take a shot after the fact. No respect for a guy like that. Guys like that, maybe he needs to get suspended or taken out of the game completely…. I understand big hits. That’s part of our game. But when you have a guy that does it week in and week out, that’s when it becomes a problem.”

As expected players from the Washington Redskins have backed up the constantly illegal actions of Brandon Meriweather.

Do you think Brandon Marshall is right, should Meriweather be removed from the NFL before he severely injures someone with his dirty play?
