Bad day for Heisman hopefulls

Sure it may still be a little early, but this year’s Heisman race really seemed to be between a bunch of QB’s. Of course that was until today when nearly all of the front runners took themselves right out of consideration. Now it seems the Heisman race is wide open with a QB named Cam Newton of Auburn leading the way and some other candidates looking to get their names mentioned. All in all Saturday October 16th, 2010 was a very bad day for the 2010 Heisman hopefuls.

Denard Robinson of the University of Michigan had his second sub par game in a row, and worse than that his team is unable to compete with the smash mouth football teams of the Big Ten. The Wolverines will likely lose to many games for Denard to be a serious contender for the Heisman. He also suffered an injury, which may affect him going forward.

Ryan Mallet of Arkansas was able to go toe to toe with the offense of the Auburn Tigers, but he was knocked out of the game with a concussion and hat may have serious implications going forward. Taylor Martinez of Nebraska wasn’t injured, but was benched for ineffective play. On top of that the Cornhuskers lost to Texas and had their national title hopes effectively dashed.

Now let us talk about Cam Newton from Auburn. All he did was rack up 188 rushing yards, and throw for 140 more with four TD’s. On top of that he led his team to victory in the highest scoring SEC regular season game in history. Cleary he has become the best player in the country.
