Bono Rallies Legends And Newcomers To Protest Poverty [VIDEO]

U2’s lead singer Bono , is recruiting some big guns to protest poverty in anticipation of next week’s upcoming G-8 Summit taking place in Northern Island. There are also some non -veterans joining the cause including ballad singer Ed Sheeran and Macklemore.

Bono heads his charity organization ONE which takes up social causes all over the globe. This project is called agit8 , and it is geared toward bringing awareness about this terrible situation to world leaders attending the summit.

The lead man has created the agit8 project to call for an end to poverty and an increase in food production in Africa. In addition, he is also calling for more aid to be brought in to the impoverished continent.

The legend on the site reads:

Protest songs have helped shape history proving that when people come together, and raise their voices, extraordinary things can happen.

The site posted a long list of classics performed by veterans and newcomers alike.

Bono has recruited the help of Sting, Mumford and Sons, Peter Gabriel, Artists Against Apartheid, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello and many others. The list of songs along with the original artist and current performer were posted online on Tuesday.

Ed Sheeran sings Bob Dylan’s Masters of Wars while Mumford and Sons have a collaboration with Elvis Costello for Bruce Springteen’s song The Ghost of Tom Joad .

Cali and Steve Nieve 20/20 is performing U2’s Sunday Bloody Sunday , about Martin Luther King’s assassination while Chris Daughtry and Michael W. Smith sings another popular U2 fight song Pride (In the Name of Love) . Kanye West is singing his own song, Diamonds from Sierra Leone .

Other notables involved with aquit8 are Bob Marley, Annie Lennox, and Green Day. When visiting the site you are allowed to listen to all the songs and create a share graphic to share the lyrics to the most powerful songs ever written.
