Boy’s eyesight saved by Mario Kart DS

A six-year-old boy in the UK could well have had his sight saved by playing Mario Kart DS on his Nintendo DS for two hours a day.

This story starts when, at the age of four, Ben Michaels was diagnosed with amblyopia, more commonly known as severe lazy eye syndrome in his right eye. With his vision in the affected eye gradually decreasing, Ben’s GP referred him to a consultant, who dished out the sweetest of medicines: a daily dose of Nintendo. Damn my perfectly functional eyesight!

Young Ben wore an eye patch while undergoing his ‘treatment’, and within a week had gone from being ‘nearly blind’ in the eye to improving ‘250 per cent’, according to his mother.

Ben’s consultant, one Ken Nischal, told the Daily Mail that thousands of kids and adults could benefit from similar treatment. And, y’know, have lots of fun while doing so.
