Shortly before she committed suicide, Mindy McCready asked private investigator Danno Hanks to put a video together for her. McCready asked Hanks to work on a cover of “I’ll See You Yesterday,” which was written by Courtney Dashe and produced by McCready’s late boyfriend, David Wilson.

Hanks said the song helped McCready cope with Wilson’s death. Wilson, 34, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound last month, and McCready has denied that she had anything to do with his death.

Hanks said McCready was excited about the “I’ll See You Yesterday” cover .

“Normally she would write her own songs, but a fan of hers had given it to her and asked if she would like to record it,” Hanks said. “She gave me a copy of it, and it really looked like things were on the upswing for her.”

Hanks said that McCready kept in touch with Dashe after the song was written, and that she was working on getting the rights to the song so that Dashe would get the royalties.

“I was like, ‘Hey what is the big deal,’” Hanks said. “But now I understand she wanted to make sure it got out there and there was no copyright problems for it being up there.”

Hanks added that McCready had sent him a frame of the video that included information for a suicide hotline.

“I thought she was talking about sending a message about suicide for David’s death but this is unbelievable. She was sending me a message. I wish I had been more alert to what it was,” Hanks said. “Everybody wants to reach out after the fact but nobody wants to be there when it is happening.”

Hanks said that he didn’t think McCready would commit suicide, and that she had her sons — Zander and Zayne — to live for.

“I still can’t fathom the whole thing,” he said.

Mindy McCready committed suicide Sunday , and the Cleburne County, Arkansas, sheriff’s department confirmed that she died of a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound . Authorities responded to McCready’s home at 3:58 pm after getting a report of gunshots fired in the vicinity and discovered her body on the porch. She was 37 years old.
