Two sets of irresponsible parents left their children in vehicles over the weekend as temperatures reached 104 degrees, in one case leading to the death of a child.
The first case comes out of Greenfield, Indianapolis a city of 20,000 where the Indianpolis Star reports that a 3-month-old baby girl was left alone in her car seat by her father, Joshua Stryzanski, 18. Following that incident the father was immediately arrested and sent to Hancock County Jail where he was charged with “neglect of a dependent resulting in death.”
The Indianapolis death was confirmed by Greenfield Police Chief John Jester who did not reveal further details at this time.
The second incident occurred in Fishers, Indianapolis where a 16-month-old girl was left in her family vehicle at approximately 3 p.m. According to reports the girl suffered a seizure and was rushed to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment and observation.
According to police the temperature inside the SUV after authorities broke the vehicles window was 124 degrees.
In that case the child’s irresponsible mother Meg Trueblood, 30, was arrested and charged with felony neglect of a child.
The 104 degree temperatures at both locations were reported by the National Weather Service, breaking a record of 101 that dated all the way back to 1936 and falling just 2 degrees short of the all-time city record of 106 degrees which was set on July 14, 1936.
The heat wave that has spread across much of the United States has already been associated with 61 heat-related deaths.
