Audi America has responded to a lawsuits filed by rapper Eminem in which he claims the company used his “Lose Yourself” song for a commercial that aired in Germany.
According to the Audio spokesperson, the commercial is not a commercial, stating:
“The video referred to is not an advertisement,” and “Also, this does not involve Audi of America. The video was not shown here in the U.S.”
It seems odd that the company would say a commercial, which touts a product isn’t a commercial, perhaps I just don’t have a grasp on German law.
In the spot the car company shows off their 2012 Audi A6 Avant while a man in a suit drives the vehicle through a city while the Lose Yourself song plays.
Not only does it appear that Audi stole the song, the video mimics Em’s own 2011 Super Bowl commercial for Chrysler which has led to speculation that Chrysler could file a lawsuit of their own.
Speaking to Billboard an Eminem spokesperson said of the commercial:
“We believe Audi not only used ‘Lose Yourself’ to sell their product without permission, but their spot actually feels inspired by elements of Chrysler’s commercial campaign.”

There is definitely reason to compare those two commercials and yes I’m calling the Audi spot a commercial, because it is a commercial.
