Today is the second anniversary of actor Cory Monteith ‘s death. The Glee star was found in a Vancouver hotel room dead of mixed toxicity, which included heroin and alcohol.
At the time, Monteith had been dating his Glee costar, Lea Michele, who was said to be devastated from the loss of her friend, cast mate, and boyfriend. Since Monteith’s passing, Michele has made it a point to post touching sentiments on his birthday and the anniversary of his death.
Today is no different, as Michele took to Instagram to share a rare photo of Cory Monteith, with a sweet caption. Michele posted a photo of Monteith driving , with a sunburst coming through the window, illuminating the whole picture. “I know you would want us all laughing and smiling today… So we think of you and remember all the laughter and joy we shared together. I hold you in my heart always and love and miss you so…”
The actress tweeted the same picture and a similar sentiment on Twitter.

For the first anniversary of his passing, Lea posted the following.

On what would have been his 33rd birthday, Michele didn’t forget her former boyfriend and posted a message on Twitter.

Since Cory’s passing, Lea has used both Twitter and Instagram as a way to reach out to fans during her time of grief. Months after Monteith’s death, Lea started dating life guru Matthew Paetz, who she met on the set of her music video. Since then, they’ve been inseparable, and Michele has looked very happy, which is a 180 from how she looked following the news of Monteith’s passing.

Back on the December 12, 2013, episode of the Ellen DeGeneres Show , Lea Michele spoke about her difficulty in adjusting to the loss. “It’s pretty intense and then if you smile it’s like, ‘She’s so happy!’ and then if you’re, you know, if you look sad they’re like, ‘She’s terrible.’ It’s like, you know, it’s just, it’s really hard. There’s so many different emotions.”
After Monteith’s passing, Fox and Glee creator Ryan Murphy left it up to her to decide if Glee would continue without Monteith. Lea decided that the show must go on, and that the cast should continue the show.
At the time, she said, “What people also don’t understand is that going to work is no harder than being at home and being in the house and opening up a closet and seeing a pair of shoes, like there’s — grief goes with you every day, whatever you’re doing, when there’s great moments, when there’s hard moments.”
Glee aired a tribute to Cory and his character, Finn Hudson, titled The Quarterback, which dealt with the death of his character. Although they never mentioned how Finn died, and people speculated that it was mysterious because of Monteith’s tragic death, most people agreed that Glee handled his death with sensitivity.
