Rima Fakih , the first Arab-American to be crowned Miss USA, managed to avoid jail time when she was sentenced on Wednesday for driving while visibly impaired .

Instead of going to jail, Fakih will be put on six months probation, and she will also be required to serve 20 hours of community service. In addition to that, Fakih will be forced to pay $600 in fines, and will be required to attend an alcohol safety class.

“I’m very relieved” not to have been sentenced to serve jail time, Fakih said of her sentencing. “But let’s say it got to that point. I was willing to pay the price it took because I knew I made mistakes.”

“My intention was not to drive drunk and put a lot of people in danger,” Fakih added. “It was very humbling, and I had a lot of people by my side — family and friends — and you learn who’s there for you.”

Police stated that Fakih was seen driving 60 mph in a 30 mph zone, and was weaving in and out of traffic before officers pulled her over. In April, Rima plead no contest to the charges.

Do you think Rima Fakih got off easy?
