When a driver in Maringa, Brazil , parked illegally in a disabled spot, he did not save much time as he may have initially intended, but he did face public shame by bystanders cheering and jeering at the swift justice he was faced with.
The driver, who was very able-bodied, returned from his venture to find his entire car covered with thousands of blue stickers – complete with a white wheelchair sign adorning the car’s side and back.
Seemingly angry at the discovery, the perpetrator struggles to rip away the obstructing paper from his windshield and window as onlookers laughed at his comeuppance.
The video shows dozens of onlookers enjoying the entertaining scene before the man sped off in a huff, with a trail of blue paper following his hasty exit.
It is not entirely clear if the incident was a stunt, but, according to Brazilian news agency Globo.com , it was all a part of a means of raising awareness about disabled parking violation.
“It is an awareness campaign,” said Ideval de Oliveira, a representative of Maringa’s Traffic and Safety Unit . “I do not know the group, but if the goal is to draw attention so that people do not misuse the (spaces), that’s all right.”
Officials of the southern Brazilian city said thousands of fines have so far been issued this year to able-bodied people who parked in handicapped spaces.
