Many interpreted the exclusion of Kristi Noem from a public Cabinet meeting as a silent message from President Donald Trump. She is toxic right now, and he is not interested in giving her a platform to defend herself or explain what happened.
Interestingly, Attorney General Pam Bondi is also noticeably silent during the recent cabinet meeting. She recently arrived just a day after the FBI agents searched the election office of a county in Georgia, which has long been central to right-wing theories about President Donald Trump’s loss in 2020. Her presence in the room without an invitation to speak suggested similar distancing.
The abbreviated Cabinet meeting itself was revealing. Trump opened by speaking for nearly twenty-five minutes. Then he joked about a previous meeting in December, claiming it had been “a little bit on the boring side.” He also addressed something people had noticed: photos and videos showing him with his eyes closed during that December meeting.

The POTUS, then, straightforwardly said he had no interest in hours-long discussions. “We’re not going to go through the whole table,” the husband of Melania Trump’s aide.
Cabinet members, including Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, and State Secretary Marco Rubio, were not given time to speak or address the issues being raised against them. The president praised their work but did not go further.

The most telling moment came at the end. Trump turned the floor briefly to Vice President JD Vance for closing remarks. Then the meeting was over. Reporters shouted questions as they were ushered out, but Trump did not acknowledge them. He offered no opportunity for the press to ask about Minnesota, Georgia, or anything else.
