‘Chev & Bev’ A No-Go: ABC Drops ‘Vacation’ Reunion Series

While Vacation fans will be happy to see a Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo reunion on the big screen later this summer, the duo’s Chev & Bev television series is unfortunately not getting picked up.

According to Entertainment Weekly , Chev & Bev is just one of the many pilots that is not getting picked up for a full series at ABC. The article notes that it’s “slightly surprising” that ABC decided to pass on the Chase/D’Angelo-starring comedy.

This news comes just as the two were seen together in the trailer for the Vacation reboot (NSFW video below). The film also stars Ed Helms, Leslie Mann, Christina Applegate, and Chris Hemsworth, and will hit theaters on July 29.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Chev & Bev was slated to have Chase and D’Angelo play a couple enjoying their retired lifestyle, who are then suddenly given the responsibility of having to care for their grandchildren. The comedy series was going to be executive produced by Brad Copeland and Aaron Kaplan, who worked together on MTV’s version of The Inbetweeners . Chev & Bev would have also starred Ed Oxenbould, Aly Michalka, and Desiree Ross, according to its IMDb page.

The series had begun as Chev & Bev because those are the abbreviations of its leads’ names. But D’Angelo didn’t like the “Bev” abbreviation and wanted ABC to use her full first name in the title. Instead of going that route, TVLine reports that ABC had planned on simply calling it Chevy , with D’Angelo still being fully attached to the project.

Chev & Bev is not the only pilot that ABC is not picking up for a full series. Deadline reports that an untitled Johnny Knoxville series, the Melanie Griffith-starring Brainy Bunch , and dramas The Advocate and The Kingmakers are not getting picked up either.

Fall TV news is starting to fly. Some surprises, some obvious. Biggest is that Chev & Bev has been dropped and Nashville pickup.

ABC is dropping Chev & Bev and other pilots, but the station is coming out with nine new series for the 2015-2016 lineup. Entertainment Weekly reports that ABC has ordered full seasons for six dramas, including The Catch , the latest from Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Shonda Rhimes. ABC is also moving forward with a Muppets reboot, and an anthology series called Wicked City .
