Jewel and her husband, Ty Murray, are getting a divorce. The singer and her rodeo pro hubby were together for 10 years before tying the knot back in 2008. They welcomed their first child together, a son, three years ago. According to People Magazine , the couple announced their decision to split on Jewel’s website on Wednesday.
“My husband, friend and partner of 16 years and I have decided to get a divorce. Ty and I have always tried to live the most authentic life possible, and we wanted our separation as husband and wife to be nothing less loving than the way we came together. For some time we have been engaged in private and difficult, but thoughtful and tender undoing of ourselves. Allowing ourselves the time and space to redefine what we are to each other with love rather than with malice.”
Jewel and Ty Murray took their time to really think this through before announcing their decision to the world. In many ways, you have to give them credit for trying to work things out privately before filing for divorce on a whim. It is clear that these two people deeply care about and love each other, but that they feel that they would be happier being apart. Marriage can be tricky that way.
While the two will continue to work to figure out their new lives, they promise to keep their son a priority. Their statement continued:
“Our dedication to our son is unwavering and we are both committed to being the best partners in raising our son. Due to the spirit in which we have gone about this separation, we trust we can remain dear friends who hold each other in high esteem, which is so important to us as parents – we wish only what is best for our son.”
Jewel, 40, and Ty Murray, 44, always seemed so happy together. Celebrity splits of this nature are truly surprising and unfortunate. However, Jewel and Ty are great friends and will hopefully continue their friendship long after their divorce paperwork has been finalized.
Another shocking split was that of Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs . As previously reported by The Inquisitr , Menzel and Diggs were also together for 16 years. The public was unaware of any marital problems between the singer and the actor, so when news of their divorce hit the internet, it was just as shocking.
Of course Jewel likely never dreamed of having to tell the world that her marriage didn’t work out. As evidenced by how she start off her blog post , the divorce process isn’t easy.
