The American President Donald Trump loves watching films and his favorite ones include both classic Hollywood flicks and gangster cinema. Mentioning Trump’s love for films, LA Times had previously reported, “Before following his father into real estate, Trump at one point harbored dreams of being a studio mogul not unlike the ones who had made those movies. After graduating from New York Military Academy in 1964, Trump briefly considered attending USC’s film school.”
Trump himself, along with Tony Schwartz, wrote in the 1987 best selling book, Trump: The Art of the Deal, “I was attracted to the glamour of the movies, and I admired guys like Sam Goldwyn, Darryl Zanuck and most of all Louis B. Mayer. But in the end I decided real estate was a much better business.”
The top five movies that Donald Trump swears by include Citizen Kane, Gone with the Wind, and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. The other two are Francis Ford Coppola’s classics The Godfather and its sequel The Godfather II. Besides being a fan of watching movies, Trump has also appeared in cameo roles in various Hollywood films, including Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Zoolander.
However, it is not only classics that are loved by Trump. In a 1997 New Yorker profile piece, he had praised the film Bloodsport, saying it’s an “an incredible, fantastic movie.” That film does not have any Oscar nominations and despite that has clearly impressed Trump.

Talking about another of his favorite films, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Trump told Movieline, “The characters are well-developed and sometimes remind me of some of the types I’ve had to deal with over the years in business.” Another film that Trump loves because of its “a stellar cast” is the Martin Scorsese directed Good Fellas.
One interesting thing here is that while Trump loves Good Fellas, Robert De Niro, who starred in the film, does not share the same sentiment about Trump. Talking about the American President, De Niro said, “Today, we have a weird twisted president who thinks he’s a gangster, who’s not even a very good gangster. Gangsters have honour, you shake a hand and they have your word and you have theirs and that’s it. But with this guy, it’s not the case.”

A significant portion of De Niro’s career consists of gangster films, one of the favorite genres of Trump. Therefore, the actor’s words about him seem to be rather ironic, given how fond Trump is of those films and how he is a fan of the cast.
