So Jerry Jones goes out of his way to make up for not drafting Randy Moss, and takes WR Dez Bryant with the 24th overall pick. While that seems like a silly reason to draft a guy, Bryant is the real deal and since the Dallas passing game sill revolves around WR Miles Austin and TE Jason Whitten it seems that Bryant will get a chance to develop at his own pace. He is one of the rare high profile WR prospects that will play with a good team. Maybe he is the real deal, but the Cowboys have gambled a lot on him.
While Jones would not allow needs on the offensive line dictate what he was going to do in this draft, he spent his second round pick on LB Sean Lee. Lee is fundamentally sound, and Head Coach Wade Phillips thinks there is nothing he cannot do. They did take an OT in the sixth round, and a few CB prospects in rounds four and six, but they did not land a safety. This means they passed on two of their bigger positions of need with their early picks.
With all that being said, here is a look at the initial grades for the 2010 Cowboys draft class:
• Round One – B, Bryant is a great talent, but also a big risk • Round Two – B, Sean Lee should be a solid LB for them •Talent- B, two highly thought of prospects is a pretty good draft •Need- C, they left big holes at tackle and Free Safety •Average- B-
