Juicy J, who was recruited to work with Katy Perry on her new single “Dark Horse,” had nothing but good things to say about the song.
The rapper — whose real name is Jordan Michael Houston — said he was contacted by Perry’s producer , who told him the “Roar” singer wanted to work with him.
“I just did something with Katy Perry, man,” he said. “That song is amazing. Dr. Luke called me up and was like, ‘Hey man, Katy Perry wants you to do a song with her.’”
The 38-year-old Memphis native also complimented Perry’s personality and work ethic.
“She’s very professional, everything went smooth and she’s a great person. My verse I did on that song, she was singing it,” he said. “She’s really a genius, she was by the mixing board and telling the guy what to take in and take out. She’s really hands-on with her music, she knows music.”
Katy Perry explained that “Dark Horse” is a “warning” not to fall in love with her.
“It’s kind of a juxtaposition,” she said. “It’s got me, a pop artist, with a little bit of an urban kind of hip-hop-flavored background soundtrack to it, and the lyrics are kind of witchy and dark, as if I was a witch warning this man not to fall in love with me, and if you do know I’m going to be your last.”
Perry also explained the motivation before her new album’s title and the songs on it.
“The reason why I called this record Prism is because I actually finally let the light in and then I was able to create all these songs that were inspired by letting the light in and doing some self-reflection and just kind of working on myself,” Perry said.
Juicy J recently announced on Twitter that he was offering a $50,000 scholarship to “the best chick that can twerk.” The tweet was quickly deleted, but the rapper announced that he has partnered with Worldstarhiphop.com to launch the “Juicy J Scholarship Foundation” competition .
