Apparently so, and apparently enough to warrant the wide-scale recall. Although the health risk has been deemed “low” by the US Department of Agriculture, 72,000 pounds of the product manufactured by the Suter Company of Syracuse, Illinois is affected by the recall due to possible contamination with hard pieces of plastic. No injuries have been reported in connection with the product.
Per a news release from the USDA, the following products are being recalled:
- 8.2-ounce packages of “BUMBLE BEE LUNCH ON THE RUN CHICKEN SALAD COMPLETE LUNCH KIT.” The package contains a 2.9-ounce can of Bumble Bee Chicken Salad along with crackers, mixed fruit, a cookie and a spoon. The package label indicates the product is “Mixed and Ready to Eat.” The product package indicates a “Best-by” date of 07/11.
- 3.5-ounce packages of “BUMBLE BEE CHICKEN SALAD WITH CRACKERS.” The package contains a 2.9-can of Bumble Bee Chicken Salad and crackers. The package label indicates the product is “Ready to Eat.” The product package indicates a “Best-by” date of 01/12 or 02/12.
The USDA also says that the cans have an establishment number of “P-169” inside the USDA mark of inspection and the products have a lot code of “0225XXQBC.” printed on the packaging. The affected products were manufactured in mid to late-August and shipped to retailers across the US.
