Nirvana is finally eligible for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
The Seattle grunge group is one of 16 finalists to make the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame this year. Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oats, The Replacements, Linda Ronstadt, Yes, The Zombies, and Link Wry also made the ballot for the first time this year.
According to Cleveland.com , the other nominees are Chic, Deep Purple, LL Cool J, N.W.A., the Meters, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and Cat Stevens.
Rock Hall President and CEO Greg Harris said: “I think it’s remarkable in that there are so many first-time nominees… It’s remarkably diverse in the type of bands that are on it. In some ways, it’s a balance between the populist bands and some of the ‘musicians’ musicians.’ ”
Harris said that he expects five to seven of the bands to officially be inducted as part of Rock And Roll’s Class of 2014. Harris didn’t guarantee entry for any of the bands but he did say that Nirvana was a safe bet.
Harris added: “I would think that everybody on this list was impactful and influential, but for a whole genre, Nirvana really led a charge.”
Fans will be able to vote for their favorite bands again this year. Starting today, fans can vote at rockhall.com , rollingstone.com and usatoday.com . The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will announce the inductees in December.
