A two-faced kitten was born this week in Oregon.
According to the Global Post , the little kitten was born in the town of Amity, Oregon. Her owners have named her “Deucy.”
Owner Stephanie Durkee said: “The kids … came in and said, ‘Mom there’s a kitty with two heads .’ And I said, ‘I think you guys are just tired, you’re crazy, that doesn’t happen.’”
The Guardian reports that Deucy the two-faced kitten was rejected by her mother and had to be fed with a bottle. She’s only a few days old but Durkee said that the cat appears to be healthy.
Yahoo News notes that two-headed cats are very rare but they aren’t unheard of. They are called Janus cats and pop up from time to time. A two-faced kitten was born last year in Port Charlotte, Florida, but died just a few days later.
Cats aren’t the only animals that are occasionally born with an extra face. A pig in China was recently spared a trip to the slaughterhouse because it had two heads.
