During Activision Blizzard’s third quarter earnings call yesterday, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime confirmed that StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm won’t be making its way to PC and Mac until the first half of next year.
StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm ‘s multiplayer portion is currently in closed beta, and has been for several months. It was expected that Blizzard didn’t intend to release the full product until some next year, and that suspicion was confirmed during the call.
It was recently announced that the StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm beta would be updated with a leveling system, along with clan support and an overhauled Battle.net UI.
Morhaime went on to reveal that, to date, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has managed to sell 6 million copies worldwide on PC and Mac. A third installment of StarCraft II , titled Legacy of the Void , will follow after the release of Heart of the Swarm .
Also in the call, Morhaime revealed something that might not surprise a whole lot of you: Diablo III will be getting an expansion. In fact, said expansion is already in the works. No timeline for when the Diablo III expansion is to be released was provided, nor do we know any details beyond the fact that it’s coming at some point.
Since launch, Diablo III has received a number of updates adding new features and tweaking mechanics based on feedback from the community. The game’s PVP update, which was cut from the official release, has yet to be released.
