Ed Reed could have the perfect ending to his career written, but even if his Baltimore Ravens win Super Bowl XLVII, he isn’t ready to go out on top.

The Ravens safety said he isn’t ready to join fellow defender Ray Lewis in retiring after the team plays the San Francisco 49ers for the Super Bowl. Many thought the 34-year-old Reed would hang up his cleats after this season, but he quashed those rumors on Thursday.

After hearing that Ray Lewis was ready for his “last ride,” Ed Reed had a different response.

There was speculation that the 34-year-old Reed might retire after this season.

“”No, it’s not my last ride. I just bought a bike,” Reed said.

Ed Reed certainly wouldn’t have any nagging injuries to worry about, even as he gets older, ESPN points out. After missing the first six games of the 2010 season with a hip injury, Reed hasn’t missed. He was one of only two Ravens defenders to start all 16 games last season.

“There’s no other man like Ed Reed,” Ravens defensive end Art

uld have thhur Jones said. “He’s passionate and he’s such a hard worker. That guy helps me out, and he’s a safety. He understands the game at every position.”

With his first Super Bowl title in sight, Ed Reed is only focused on Sunday’s game, the Baltimore Sun noted.

“This is the ultimate, for your team,” Ed Reed said. “This is what you always wanted. This is why you prepare in the offseason. This is why you play the game — to get to the ultimate dance. This is it. I told Bernard Pollard in the walk-through, ‘I don’t need anything else in life, outside of my son graduating college. I’m good. I don’t need anything else. I’m set. I’m good right now.’ “
