Have you missed Minnie Driver on your television screen? If so, it looks like you won’t have to wait much longer if her new pilot for NBC gets picked up. According to Deadline , Minnie Driver is heading to NBC for a comedy pilot titled About A Boy .

The Riches actress will be co-star in the NBC pilot against David Walton ( New Girl ) in a single-camera comedy based on the Nick Hornby novel and the 2002 film starring Hugh Grant. The promising sitcom will be written by the very successful Friday Night Lights and Parenthood executive producer Jason Katims. In addition, it will be directed by Jon Favreau. With Driver in the lead, and Katims writing the script, it seems pretty promising.

The official description from Deadline reads as follows:

“About A Boy follows the relationship between Will (Walton), a bachelor man-child who is going through a revolving door of women, and the young boy who moves in next door with his kooky single mother, Fiona (Driver).”

Just to get an idea of Driver’s role, the original role was played by Toni Colette in the film version.

Back in 2008, Minnie Driver spoke with Movieweb about her failed but critical acclaimed The Riches , and how exhausting it was to play that particular character:

“It can become super inflammatory -you know she’s just a huge character and I definitely get exhausted, but also get very over emotional, which is a challenge. You kind of exhaust yourself and exhaust the people around you as well.”

Hopefully Minnie Driver will be able to find a light side with About A Boy . Would you watch this series if it’s green lit? NBC could sure use a good comedy right about now.
