2010 MLB season preview: San Francisco Giants

If the San Francisco Giants could ever qualify for the playoffs they would be unbeatable. They just may have the best starting rotation in all baseball. Think about it Tim Linecum, Matt Cain, Jonathan Sanchez, and I forget to mention Barry Zito. Freaking awesome. The Problem is offense. They didn’t chase the big money free agents during the off season but added quality veterans instead, however if they can score some runs they will be very hard to beat.

Again the question about this team is, do they have enough offense? They have one of the best young players in the game today in Pablo “Kung Fu Panda” Sandoval. However they failed to chase Matt Holiday or Jason Bay. They added Mark Derosa, and Aubrey Huff. While Sandoval hit 13 home runs in AT&T Park last year one has to wonder if they can score enough.

Another deficiency on this team is its lack of base running speed. There is not a guy n this lineup that can leg out an infield hit. Given that their on base percentage suffers, and they cannot get big hits for the heavies to knock in multiple runs. On top of that the defense suffers from the overall lack of speed on everyone of the regulars.

Back t the pitching, while Zito is never going to live up to his contract, the Giants need him to be the player he was in the second half of 2009. While they have a very deep rotation we can hardly call their fourth and fifth guys as steady as the front line guys. They may move Madison Bumgarner into the starting rotation if they feel they need to.
