Former WNBA star Chamique Holdsclaw has finally been charged for her violent encounter with ex-girlfriend Jennifer Lacy last year.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , Holdsclaw turned herself into police after the incident with Lacy last November. Holdsclaw smashed the driver’s side and passenger’s side windows with a baseball bat before sticking a pistol into the rear driver’s side window and shooting across the SUV at the other door.
Lacy was still in the driver’s seat when the Holdsclaw fired into the car, but she was uninjured. Lacy had reported smelling gasoline in her 2010 Range Rover prior to the incident, and she drove to a friend’s house after noticing Holdsclaw following her.
Holdsclaw was originally charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct, and second-degree criminal damage to property.
According to TMZ , Holdsclaw has been charged with six crimes : two counts of aggravated assault and criminal damage in the second degree, one count of criminal damage in the first degree, and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
If Holdsclaw is convicted on all six charges, she faces up to 65 years in a state prison.
According to USA Today , Holdsclaw is planning to enter a plea of not guilty . Attorney Ed Garland said:
“Our position is that she is not guilty of having committed any assault upon Ms. Lacy. The events occurred after an emotional situation between the two of them. She did assault the car itself and damage the car with the baseball bat and firing the gun; however, there was no assault on Ms. Lacy. We expect to negotiate a proper resolution to this matter with the district attorney’s office.”
