Don’t believe everything you read on Twitter: Shaggy is not dead.
The hashtag #RIPShaggy has been circulating on Twitter recently after a fake death story was published about the singer’s demise. In addition to the Twitter hashtag, Shaggy’s Wikipedia page was also changed to say that the singer had died.
According to the fake death story, Shaggy died after a brawl in Los Angeles. He was reportedly stabbed during the brawl and succumbed to his injuries.
Thankfully, none of that happened.
A rep for the star told TMZ : “[Shaggy] is like a cat with 9 lives … but I can happily report that he’s alive and kicking and in the same building as me right now as we speak.”
Another rep told Urban Islandz: “The rumors are exactly what it is a rumor… We were made aware of the rumor yesterday but we didn’t know it was so serious. Someone just have a little too much time on their hands.”
Shaggy also insisted that he was not dead. The singer wrote wrote on Twitter that the guy who died “definitely wasn’t me.”
Shaggy, of course, is only the latest celebrity to fall victim to a death hoax. Everyone from Adam Sandler to Rowan Atkinson to Jon Bon Jovi have been “killed” on Twitter.
